Acne takes a hit on your self-confidence, and you may hesitate to engage in normal social activities when you’re breaking out. Using CBD for acne relief is a relatively new approach to clearing up blemishes, and it's gaining popularity – quickly!
What is CBD?
CBD stands for cannabidiol, one of 104 compounds from the cannabis plant. It is a cannabinoid, along with its more famous counterpart tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which has psychoactive properties. However, CBD doesn’t contain enough THC to have the same effect, so it doesn't get you high.
To make CBD oil, cannabidiol is blended with a carrier oil such as hemp seed oil or coconut oil.
It’s gained a lot of momentum in the wellness world because it’s been shown to relieve pain, reduce depression and anxiety, alleviate cancer symptoms, help with acne, benefit heart health, insomnia, and much more.
Is CBD safe?
As the world of science continues to explore CBD’s benefits, some have worried about its safety. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) states that CBD does not exhibit any indication of abuse or dependence potential. It is a strong natural element that aids in various ailments with almost no side-effects.
CBD for Acne-prone skin
Acne is the most common skin condition in humans. Most people deal with acne at some point in their lives, be it occasionally or on a daily basis. Many factors influence acne, including excess sebum production, hormonal imbalances, and genetics. Some other factors, such as diet, stress levels, and particular medications, may also increase the severity of a person’s acne symptoms.
Sebum helps protect our skin from the outside world. However, it can mix with dead skin cells, dirt, or other pollutants and become trapped inside a pore. This clogged pore then becomes acne. CBD has the ability to regulate the amount of sebum being produced in the skin by sebaceous glands.
CBD oil triggers anti-inflammatory reaction in the cells and prevents inflammatory cytokines from activating. Cytokines may trigger acne, so reducing them may help prevent further breakouts.
Due to the lipostatic, anti-proliferative, and anti-inflammatory effects of CBD, researchers have deemed it a promising therapeutic agent for acne.
